The country won <a href="https://www.worldtravelawards.com/award-africas-leading-destination-2022">Africa&rsquo;s leading destination 2022</a>, an award it also scooped in 2020. One statistical <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1140047/international-visitor-arrivals-in-kenya/">report</a> shows that Kenya receives a little over two million tourists annually.&nbsp;
However, the country must monitor visitor traffic and vet travelers to maintain its position as a top, safe travel destination. Therefore, below are the entry requirements you must fulfil to enter the Republic of Kenya as a tourist.
<h2>Republic of Kenya Visa Entry Requirements</h2>
A Kenyan visa grants foreign nationals with permanent residence outside Kenya permission to enter or stay in the country for a specified duration. However, Kenya's immigration directorate classifies nationalities into three categories and issues visas along the categories.
Below is an overview of each Kenyan visa category to help you establish your visa eligibility.
<h3>Eligibility For Kenyan Visas by Nationality</h3>

The Kenyan Directorate of Immigration Services exempts nationalities within this category from the visa application process. Therefore, citizens with category 1 nationalities can travel to Kenya visa-free.&nbsp;

Persons from nationalities within category 2 must apply for a visa before traveling to Kenya and are eligible to receive a visa upon application.

<h2>Kenya Entry Visa Types</h2>

<h3>Single Entry Visa</h3>
</li>
</ul>
Foreign nationals under category 2 are eligible for a single-entry visa when visiting Kenya for tourism or business. The single-entry visa remains valid for three months from the day of issue. However, single-entry visa holders can apply for a 90-day extension through the <a href="https://fns.immigration.go.ke/">Republic of Kenya Electronic Foreign Nationals Services (eFNS) portal</a>.&nbsp;
Documents necessary when applying for a Kenyan single entry visa include a travel document (passport) at least six months old and a return ticket. Moreover, you must attach the return ticket, hotel bookings, travel itinerary, and a clear photograph (<a href="https://evisa.go.ke/single-entry-visa.html">photo guidelines here</a>) in pdf or JPG format.
Kenyan single-entry visa processing charges include a USD1 service charge and a USD50 card handling fee, totaling USD51.

<h3>Multiple-entry Visa</h3>

</ul>
Kenyan multiple-entry visas have similar requirements to single-entry visas. However, only people who frequent Kenya for tourism or business can apply for multiple entry visas. The multiple entry visa application process includes paying USD101 in processing fees, and the visa lasts 3-12 months from the issued date.

Persons on connecting flights through Kenya for a period not exceeding 72 hours may apply for a transit visa, allowing them to leave the airport. A transit visa application requires a passport, a round-trip&nbsp;ticket, and a USD21 visa processing fee.

<h3>5-year Multiple Entry Visa</h3>
</li>
</ul>
The 5-year multiple entry visa is exclusive to US citizens and is valid for five years from the day of issue. Visa fees for this visa amount to USD161.

<h3>East African Tourist Visa</h3>
</li>
</ul>
An East African Tourist visa is a joint visa allowing visitors from any nationality to enter Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda without paying additional visa fees. However, the visa expires once you leave any of the three countries. Also, an EAC visa is valid for 90 days and is non-extendable.&nbsp;
You can apply for the EAC visa via the <a href="https://evisa.go.ke/east-african-tourist-visa.html">Kenyan</a>, Ugandan, or Rwandan e-visa portal. The visa costs USD100, and visa fees are non-refundable
<h2>Steps To Apply For A Kenyan Visa</h2>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Create an account on <a href="https://evisa.go.ke/about-evisa.html">eVisa</a>, Kenya&rsquo;s electronic visa system website.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Fill out the prerequisite application form&nbsp;</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Pay processing fees using a Visa card, Mastercard, or other debit or credit cards.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Await approval, then download and print the eVisa from your eVisa account.</li>
</ul>
You must present your printed eVisa to the immigration officer at the port of entry. Visa receipt takes two working days after application, but consider applying at least seven days before your scheduled travel date. Also, visa processing fees are non-refundable.
<h2>Traveling To Kenya with Minors</h2>
Children under 16 years old traveling alongside their parents do not need to apply for a Kenyan visa. However, children aged 16-18 need a visa and can only apply for an eVisa after Kenya&rsquo;s immigration department approves their parent&rsquo;s eVisa.
<h3>Passport Requirements</h3>
Every foreign national must have a passport, and the passport must be valid for at least six months and have at least two continuous blank pages.
<h4>East African Community (EAC) Citizen and Resident Entry Requirements</h4>
East African residents and citizens do not need a visa to enter Kenya. However, they must have a passport and a certificate of identity/ inter-state pass.&nbsp;
Moreover, they can drive personal cars into Kenya free of charge, provided their stay in the country does not exceed seven days. However, EAC citizens and residents driving a personal vehicle in Kenya must have a valid driver&rsquo;s license from their country and the vehicle&rsquo;s original logbook plus a COMESA travel insurance. 
<h3>Vaccination</h3>
Kenya&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.health.go.ke/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/COVID-19-Kenya-Travel-Related-Frequently-Asked-Questions-September-2021.pdf">Ministry of Health</a> currently requires all visitors to the country, except children under five years, to receive a COVID-19 vaccination 96 hours before travel. Also, EAC citizens, residents, and foreign nationals traveling on an EAC visa must submit proof of yellow fever vaccination.
